Vertical video on a motorcycle – how to shoot 9:16 with a helmet camera
Vertical video (9:16) is best shot in portrait position from the start, so you don't need to crop it afterwards. The RM Gear Vertical Mount turns the camera 90 degrees into portrait position on your helmet mount.
What you need
- an RM Gear helmet mount for your helmet model
- Vertical Mount (sold separately)
- an Extension Kit for extra extension arms if needed
- a separately sold Insta360 adapter for Insta360 cameras
How to shoot vertical video
- Install the helmet mount following the installation guide.
- Clip the Vertical Mount onto the chin mount the same way as the J-hook or any other adapter.
- Attach the camera to the Vertical Mount, which turns it into portrait position.
- Adjust the angle so that the road and handlebars are in the shot.
- Do a short test ride and check the footage before a longer ride.
Tips
- Portrait framing emphasises height: make sure the camera doesn't capture too much sky or the chin of the helmet.
- Check the mount and safety tether before every ride.
